Such a card

I may be wrong, but I’m not sure there’s anything more pleasurable or satisfying in life than sending amusing cards to people. The kind of cards that get stuck on the fridge. The kind of cards that make whoever opens them think ‘How completely hilarious. I must have Soph to stay again immediately/take her out for an expensive dinner more often/give her a much bigger cheque next time.’ That sort of thing. Also, if you send an ESPECIALLY amusing thank you card you can get away with the fact it’s probably 24 weeks too late and the card has been rolling around in your handbag with bits of gum and old hair ties waiting for you to a) buy some stamps and b) spot a postbox.

This is why I am thrilled to have discovered the artist Gemma Correll. You may already know about Gemma – I am probably terribly late to the party, just like I tend to be with most of my thank you cards. But nevermind. I want to shout about Gemma anyway because I discovered her cards in a little shop in Southwold today and got so over-excited that I bought eight of them, some of which I will post below. And if YOU fancy buying any then click HERE for a link to a website that flogs them.

Sadly, you’ll probably still take 24 weeks to write the card, look for the book of stamps you swear you JUST bought, realised you finished that book of stamps, buy a new book of stamps and then walk past dozens of postboxes until you remember you have a card rolling around your handbag that you need to post. But the person you’re sending it to won’t mind because they’ll be so tickled by the card they might wee their knickers a bit.
