If you ever need a birthday cake, ring Paulina from Sponge and Cream bakery in Brixton. She’s the babe who made it.

Quite important, however, not to ‘hide’ the cake on the floor in a corner of the kitchen when you get home. Because that’s what I did, only for my mum’s dog, Trumpet, to stick his nose in the box and start eating it while we weren’t looking. Trumpet, on the whole, is a well behaved terrier who doesn’t chase chickens or chew shoes. But he obviously forgot himself because he’d come up to London for the night, so I had stern words with him.
